hula hoopla

When I hula hoop I have this kind of violent thrashing motion I use. This chick I saw in Sydney was all smooth rotation. Because I've messed with the photo you can't see her brilliant red hair.

Did you know australia can take credit for the hula hoop

In 1957, an Australian visiting California told them, quite casually, that in his home country, children twirled bamboo hoops around their waists in gym class. Now who doesn't remember the P.E. shed being full of those. You could hula with them, skip with them, roll them along the ground and chase them. Who said we had nothing to do before computers.

DID YOU KNOW:

Truckloads of hoops were hijacked on their way to stores by crazed consumers.

In 1958 a hula hoop cost $1.98

in the United States of America.

Wham-O sold more than 100 million Hula Hoop's in the first twelve months on the market, and even that wasn't enough to meet the demand.

In Japan, nervous officials banned the toy's use in public for fear of mass impropriety

The sale of the 100-millionth hula hoop by  is referenced in Billy Joels  "We Didn't Start the Fire"  as one of the most significant events of 1959

  1. Awesome artwork, as always, and very informative!
Of course, I know it's not true. Australia didn't invent the hula hoop. That guy in The Hudsucker Proxy did.
BTW, who's the model in the top and bottom image? Is that you?
